What are good hairstyle ideas for bridesmaids?

It's a formal renaissance wedding and I'd like for them to wear their hair down. I can't afford to pay for them to get their hair styled and any type of wreaths etc are out of the question. Various lengths of hair.

Women didn't wear their hair down and uncovered, it was a sign of a loose woman.

When they did wear it down, they covered their heads with a hat with a long veil as long or longer than their hair.

For a cheap imitation, try getting some fabric headbands in a similar color to their dresses and stitching some transparent material to it in the same color. As long as the cuts were clean, you could get away with having to hem the sides and bottom of the "veil". Or you could go buy the real thing from a bridal store.

The veil length should be either elbow or finger tip, no longer since it's for the bridesmaids.

Otherwise, try braids and have the women pin the braids up on their heads so their hair isn't left down.

Have everyone wear their hair down or partially down, all the same though. Crown with baby's breath, small amount, and they will look beautiful.

For a renaissance style take two pieces of hair from the front and tie them loosely together in the back with pretty ribbon. If you've ever seen the lord of the rings movies the elven girls wear their hair like that.

(scroll down to Hats) has several options- the French Hood flatters most any face, and is easy to make.

For a less historically-accurate approach, make two small braids, starting just above the temples, and pull back into a clip at the back of the head. ("Elf" style)

With my vaguely Tudor wedding gown- I have shoulder-blade length hair, I had mine half pulled back into a bun, where I could anchor my veil, then the rest hanging in spiral curls.
